Childhood Cancer – My Cause
Kids with cancer have inspired me and changed my life forever. I am on a mission to help cure and care for children who have cancer. It includes raising the quality of life, reaching out to the siblings, and helping provide care for the families. My mission includes raising awareness for those kids who have become angels and to tell their story to those who can make a difference.
The childhood cancer cause has become my true passion in life. Approximately 6 years ago, I came across the Oncology floor at the Denver Children’s Hospital. This changed my life forever. As I started to learn about bald kids and what they were going through, I quickly realized this is an under-funded and often overlooked, and misunderstood cause. However, I also learned that cancer kids are the most thoughtful, caring, loving, and compassionate children you will ever meet. They are almost angelic in the way that they think of you first. A child who is 6 can easily describe to you the form of cancer he/she has (including all the words that most of us cannot pronounce) and can easily tell you their treatment protocol. It’s a side of life I never knew existed.
My goals in this cause can be explained in two categories. First, I want to make sure that the kids and families receive the support they desperately need. Second, I want to raise the awareness and funds towards the cure of every form of childhood cancer (yes there’s more than one). This can be done in our lifetime but will take an effort that reaches critical-mass.
Below I’ve listed my initiatives with the childhood cancer cause:
- Raise awareness for this cause in the philanthropy and corporate community. Help those who make a difference through funding learn the realities and begin to fund the mountain of research needed to cure this forever.
- Build state-wide coalitions to get every childhood cancer organization talking in one-room to address the needs of every family and collaborate on research initiatives.
- Help children with cancer enjoy their time with friends and family by funding qualify of life initiatives such as wish trips, gifts, experiences and more.
- Help support the siblings of those children with cancer. It’s important to notice how much this impacts their life and make sure they have the support they need.
- Help build national collaboration for all organizations within the Childhood Cancer cause.
Much of this is already happening, and it’s exciting to see huge progress just in the past year. Please browse my blog for updates as well as contact me if you’re interested in helping or need help within this cause.
